Pleased to Meet You

May 13, 2014 by Gary McMurrain 11 Comments

pleased-to-meet-you-philippines
I have learned over the past 28 years that expats living in the Philippines all have different agendas and needs. We cannot all be put together in one painting and be painted with the same wide brush! We are all unique individuals and I never met anyone exactly like me.

Some expats have the need to get together with other expats several times every week to be happy living in the Philippines. That is not me but I enjoy getting together with other expats several times every month. It is always fun talking to others, sharing a few cold ones, eating good food and sharing our personal experiences about Life in the Philippines. With that in mind and due to popular demand, I have organized a Retiring to the Philippines Expat Meet-Up and Lunch during the month of May.

Where’s This Shindig?

Since me and all my rowdy friends have settled down once we married and began raising our families, we don’t roar and get wild like we used to in our younger, single days. However, we still know how to have a good time! And a good time it will be!

On Saturday, May 24, at 1130am, you are invited to join Steve and I at Imay’s Restaurant in Bacolod City. Imay’s is located on 6th Street, off Lacson Street. Your wife and children are also very welcome and encouraged to attend, as Imay’s is a family restaurant.

If you would like to learn more and have a discussion about this gathering, please join us on the Retiring to the Philippines Forum and here is the link:

Meetup of RTTP Members and you can also get details on Facebook and confirm your attendance just to give us some ideas of numbers.

I hope to see you there!

    Hi Gary,
That sounds like a nice event. Would be great to meet up with some other people there but not likely that we can plan that trip for Saturday. Somewhere on the highway there is also some major construction going on. Unless we plan to stay over night i don’t need that stress. I do need to make a trip to Toyota in the future but not sure when that will be. Anymore i’m happy to hop on an aircon Ceres liner and leave the driving to them whenever possible.

Give us an update on the turnout.

      Hi Dale,

Yes, we are looking forward to the meet-up on May 24. A good number of expats have already confirmed their attendance and some are coming from Iloilo.

I think I told you before that the best way to travel to Bacolod from the south is to go through Pontevedra and right on into La Carlota. Pass the Jollibee and that same road will take you to Murcia. From there, that main road becomes Alijis Road once in Bacolod. It is a very nice road and without construction! All the way from Pontevedra! It is a time saver and no hassle.

      See you around.

      Gary

    Gary,
Thanks for the navigation info but i’m one up on that situation. We were in Sagasa yesterday and go there from the road out of La Carlotta. That road dead ends and a left turn will take you back to the highway and Bago. Sagasa is off that road. I have the rest of the trip to Murcia mapped out. We went to visit Don and Des on the last day of the Sagasa Fiesta. Where’s that? It’s in the boonies of course. Miss the turn off and you won’t find it.
Even though it’s not a big community there, it still had the typical fiesta charm. Including a parade with performers in native costumes.

    Have a good one
    Dale

How did the meetup/shindig go? I’m sure everyone had a grand time. Imay’s would be the first restaurant I’d visit when I retire to Bacolod.

      Mel,

I had reserved the best air con dining room at Imay’s. The food was great, the service was excellent and it seems everyone enjoyed themselves while in there. Only 3 hours reservation is allowed due to the demand of the rooms, so we moved to the main part of the restaurant, which has open sides. It got hot and heated up pretty quickly!

BTW, May and June are the hottest months in Bacolod and it is hot!

Greg – I spoke to Gary yesterday and he told me he’d emailed you a couple of times. Maybe check your junk folder and see if it’s there?
